The Super-Special Swing: A Puppy Kisses Story
Big news swept through Pine Grove Elementary: a new tire swing was being installed on the playground! It was big enough for three pups to sit on at once. Everyone was excited, but no one was more excited than Cora. As a social butterfly, she was already planning all the fun games they could play on it.
The day it opened, a huge crowd of pups gathered around.
“Okay everyone!” Cora announced, stepping forward. “The Puppy Pack will go first to show everyone how it works!”
A smaller pup in a blue sweater looked down at his paws. “But we were here first,” he whispered.
Mr. Flock walked over, smiling. “It’s wonderful that everyone is so excited,” he said. “But we need to make sure everyone gets a turn. Let’s form a line.”
Cora’s ears drooped a little. She wanted to go now. Waiting was hard. She stood in line behind a few other pups, tapping her paw and watching them laugh as they swung back and forth. It looked like so much fun. It felt like her turn would never come.
She saw Zach practicing his kicks and Scarlett reading under a tree. They seemed so good at waiting.
“This is taking forever,” Cora sighed to Jacob, who was behind her in line.
Jacob pointed his camera at the pups on the swing. “It looks like they’re having a great time,” he said. “I bet our turn will be just as fun when it gets here.”
Cora watched the swinging pups. Jacob was right. They were giggling and shouting with joy. The little pup in the blue sweater was smiling from ear to ear. Seeing him so happy made Cora’s impatience start to melt away. Waiting wasn’t so bad if it meant others could have fun, too.
Finally, it was her turn. She, Jacob, and Emily climbed onto the big tire. Zach gave them a huge push, and they flew into the air!
“Whee!” Cora shouted, feeling the wind in her fur. It was everything she had imagined. The wait had been worth it.
When their time was up, she hopped off with a smile and saw another group of pups waiting eagerly.
“You’re going to love it!” she told them.
Cora learned something important that day.
